When Dad first saw you as a tiny pulse on the ultrasound monitor in Dr. Kee Seng Koh's clinic, I was filled with blissful joy and excitement. Though I do not yet know what you will be called, I know you simply as my Beloved.
When Mom and I learned about your gender from Dr. Joseph Li, we thought about names that would be appropriate for you. We want names that symbolize beauty and strength, intelligent and compassionate.
Edith is an Old English word that combines "ead" meaning "rich, blessed" and "gyth" meaning "warrior, fighter." Dad got the idea of this name from the famous Pulitzer Prize-winning American author Edith Wharton. This name represents my hope that you would grow up to be a happy, blessed child, who will carry a strong fighting spirit under any circumstance.
Seraphine is a French name from the Latin word Seraphim, the name of the highest order of angels, with six beautiful wings, who stand around God's throne, singing praise. I wish you become a person with shiny inner beauty, who is not afraid to be generous and compassionate toward others.
Chang is Dad's Chinese family name. I was born and raised in Taiwan, and later immigrated with my family to the U.S. at the age of 11. Yang is Mom's Chinese family name. She was born, raised and educated in Taiwan, who later met Dad in Houston, Texas, where we wed on April 18, 2004.
